The
presence of several Defense Department
operations provide a constant supply of
retiring well-trained logistics experts
available in the labor pool.
Fort
Lee is the focal point for Army
Logistics and is home to the Combined
Arms Support Command, Army Logistics
Management College, Quartermaster Center
and School, Defense Commissary Agency,
and U.S. Army Garrison. The facility is
home to 3,200 military personnel. Under
the 2005 BRAC recommendations, an
additional 3,500 new permanent jobs for
military, civilian and contract workers
will be added from 2009 to 2011.
The
number of students at the base on an
average day will double from 5,632 in
2007 to 11,000 in 2011. Up to six
million square feet of new construction,
with a value between $1 and $2 billion,
will roughly double existing space on
the base.
Defense
Supply Center Richmond (DSCR) is the
aviation supply and demand chain manager
for the Defense Logistics Agency and
serves as the primary source of supply
for more than 1.2 million repair parts
and operating supply
items
within the Department of Defense. DSCR
provides best value aviation weapon
systems and environmental logistics
support to America’s armed forces. It
handles 5.3 million requisitions and
supports 24,500 customers per year, with
annual sales exceeding $3.6 billion.
DSCR
serves as the single “touch point”
for DLA’s
aviation customers and tailors
logistical solutions and initiatives
that meet the needs of the nation’s
war fighters.
Defense
Distribution Depot Richmond (DDRV)
provides premium distribution services
to the Army, Marines, Navy and Air
Force. DDRV also provides distribution
services support to NASA and the Foreign
Military Sales program.
Numerous
commodities are stored in approximately
7 million square feet of uncovered and
covered storage areas.
